Cookie Dough Biscuits, East Fremantle

I am into taper week now for my marathon training. In two weeks today I will be out there running my socks off. Reflecting so far on my marathon training this time (I ran my first last year) I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it….dare I say it even the 30-odd runs. I have focused a lot more on nutrition and hydration this time around (something bf, my brother and mum have all been on to me about…they say change is hard I remind them)…and wow there has been a difference. Protein shakes after the long runs quicken my recovery. A hydration drink and gels during runs above 12km mean I don’t loose speed at the end, in fact I feel stronger and generally can quicken the pace in the latter stages. So in all I am feeling confident heading into this one, lets hope that translates on the day.

Today I caught up with drinks-tea-like-most-drinks-water for a bit of exercise followed by breakfast. We headed to George St in East Fremantle. I have never been down this way so was happy to check out a new area. A gorgeous street with lots of businesses in it, I imagine I will be back here. This street has a fair few cafes on it- we were headed to Cookie Dough Biscuits. This cafe has a down stairs, where there are a few tables, the kitchen and the service area. Upstairs is more seating and the toilets. This place has a nice cosy feel to it. Service is counter service. The menu has plenty of options and we both had a hard time deciding. We decided then and there we will be back at least twice due to wanting to try the Citrus French Toast, Baklava Pancakes, Apple Bircher Pot and Orange Granola.

On this occasion drinks-tea-like-most-drink-water went with the Walnuts and Mushrooms on Sourdough which came with goats cheese and spinach ($15.50). This looked absolutely delightful and was pilled high with mushrooms.

I went with the Eggs on Sourdough (scrambled; $11) with a side of mushrooms ($3.50). This dish came with a thick slice of the most delicious sourdough toast. I later asked who supplies their bread- apparently it’s the Wild Bakery in Commercial Street, Fremantle. Looks like I am heading there next weekend to buy a loaf (or the Subiaco Farmers Market as I hear its told there too). What I loved most about this breakfast was the side of mushrooms. I didn’t notice the walnuts hidden within them until I crunched into one and what a pleasant surprise it was. The combination of textures was spot on and it was nice to get a side that was a little bit special.
