I have been wanting to try Bib and Tucker for breakfast since it opened last year. Bf and I frequently visit Leighton Beach in summer and were quite happy when we saw this restaurant open. I have been to Bib and Tucker for dinner and rather enjoyed their wood roasted carrots (oh my!), cauliflower salad (with the biggest raisins I have ever seen), and beef ribs. So this morning expecting a hot summers day here in Perth, speed-eater suggested a visit to Bib and Tucker for breakfast followed by a swim. When we arrived (around 10am) I was worried we may have to wait for a table. However, we were seated straight away on the balcony. It was a very windy morning (which may have somewhat explained the ease at getting a table) so the balcony was not the best location to sit due to the wind factor. I asked the waitress as soon as a table became available inside could we please move, however there was a wait list on those ones, so we were stuck outside. The breakfast menu has a great range of options from classics such as eggs benedict and seasonal fruit platter to some more interesting options like smashed avocado on corn bread, warm black sticky rice pudding or breakfast pizza.
Speed-eater bf ordered a flat white coffee and went with a sweet option this morning of Brioche french toast with stewed rhubarb, strawberries, marscapone and toasted almonds ($18). This dish looked gorgeous when it came out and speed-eater was happy with it. The coffee at Bib and Tucker is Campos which I adore. Bf commented that his flat white was hot underneath but the froth on top was cold; weird maybe the wind factor? Otherwise he enjoyed his cup.
I decided to go with the woodfired baked eggs which were noted on the menu as being served with wood fired flat bread, zaatar and watercress ($19). I was not too fussed on the flat bread and asked the waitress whether I could have mine served with sourdough bread instead, which was greeted with a no problem. Although my dish was also nicely presented I was a tad disappointed with it. I felt for the $19 price tag one piece of sourdough was a little stingy and my eggs needed beans or something to add a little bit of spunk. In saying that my eggs were perfectly cooked.
Overall speed-eater bf and I were a tad disappointed with Bib and Tucker for breakfast, both agreeing that we preferred our dinner experience.
