Sayers, Leederville

On Monday the speed-eater and I had an annual leave day. It was lovely to have a Monday off, but I kept thinking it was a public holiday! We decided to pop into Leederville for lunch at Sayers. Sayers has classic decor and a pleasant feel about it. I love that there are a few different seating options; inside, at the front or along a side lane way. Speed-eater chose for us to sit outside. After a little look over the menu I was having difficulty (as usual) deciding. On weekdays their breakfast menu finishes at lunchtime however there is still some breakfast options available until later in the day. One of these was the coriander and beans tagine, babaganoush, poached egg and toasted linseed. I have had this dish here before and know it is a winner. I however decided to go with a lunch option which sounded pretty amazing too; buttermilk poached chicken and quinoa salad which was served with flaked almonds. This dish was light and refreshing; perfect for a hot day. Slivers of cucumber and tomatoes were also thrown into the mix as well as coriander. The chicken was beautifully tender and reminded me how much I like this method of cooking chicken (which I subsequently did for one of our dinner meals during the week – Poached chicken with Moroccan rice and watermelon mango salad – my chicken was a little bit dry compared to Sayers – timing may have been the problem here I suspect but nevertheless a great mid-week meal).

Speed-eater bf was HUNGRY as he informed me. He went with the Steak Sandwich. When this came out it looked beautiful. I loved the idea of the slivers of roasted potato which were very crunchy! The steak looked like a porterhouse cut and was generous in portion; being a a thick cut. The steak was cooked medium-to well done which is the way speed-eater likes it. I commented to speed-eater it was clever to only toast one side of the bread which meant it was less crunchy and was easier to eat. In saying that however it was much too choc-full of ingredients for even speed-eater to get his mouth around so a knife and fork were necessary. It was not your typical steak and salad sandwich, rather had coleslaw inside. Speed-eater was very happy with this as he loves coleslaw.

Sayers uses quality ingredients and they are served in such a simple way that allows the ingredients to shine. A top quality cafe.
